Hello my name is Georgianne Carney, owner of Dancin' Setters Kennel My love for the Irish Setter began as a child: My grandparents raised me and my grandmother was involved in the dog rescue in Chicago. We would watch the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show together and I told my grandparents that, someday, I would be there with an Irish Setter that I bred. My grandmother would warmly say, “If you work hard at your dream, it will come true.” It makes me very happy that she has lived to see me realize that dream. My first Irish Setter was purchased, as a pet, in 1972 out of a litter from Thenderin William Muldoon. We frolicked around the Cornell University campus, until I graduated, and he lived to be 15. My breeding program began in 1987. Anyone who has been involved in breeding will tell you that it is a learning experience, especially when the goal is to produce champion quality animals, . It was no exception with me. But I believe my breeding philosophy is on the right track. The star of the kennel, now, is a wonderful bitch, with a great pedigree, thanks to Suzanne Walker of Kellyglen's Kennel. When I first saw her, I just couldn't take my eyes off her and immediately felt something special. With her sweet temperament and lovely face, she is Ch. Kellyglen's Impromptu (“Kayla”), of whom I am sole owner. A breeding to Ch. Ballymera's Whisperin' Secrets, ("Hooli", bred by Patty Clawson of Ballymera's kennel), produced a litter of 7...of which five became champions. There was a repeat litter of 10 with 6 of them in conformation show homes & 1 in obedience. One individual finished in 5 shows within 2 months! I now have 8 champions from Kayla and have applied for a Register of Merit Award. This would be my first “ROM”, as well as Kellyglen's. Kayla’s first litter produced Ch. Dancin' Brown Eyed Girl ("Pinkie"). Pinkie became the number one bitch in the country, in the breed, and number 8 in all breeds (as of March 2004 stats). I took her off the road to breed her back in March. Watch for puppy news on this site. The pedigree is posted, for the breeding, on the Availability Page (click on COI pedigree for each animal). If you are interested in owning one of the litter, Contact us for availability ... as there is an evaluation done for each client and a waiting list is compliled for each litter. You will notice that my "girls" are not only champions in the traditional sense. They could be swimming champs also! I can barely keep them out of the swimming pool and they don't need any encouragement to exercise. That contributes greatly to, both, their musculature and their temperaments. I can attest that my dogs are one happy bunch! The name Dancin'Setters comes from a few sources. I have been teaching dance, choreography, and costume design at Cornell University. In addition, I have noticed that my setters do a dance of they're own. Hence, the name. I derived my line drawing logo from a picture of one of my setters on her hind legs...with a “tutu” and clover added just for fun. The idea for the tutu came from volunteer work I did, with Kayla, at two of our local nursing homes: I would dress her up in a collar made of flowing chiffon and do a veil dance with her for the folks. We would then mingle with them for a petting and question & answer session. It was very rewarding and that chiffon collar gave me the idea of the tutu on the logo. It always amazes me where some ideas can come from! I have specific breeding goals that you can read here. I have been a member in good standing of the Irish Setter Club of America since 1987. I am also a member in good standing on the Irish Setter Club of America breeders directory. I belong to the FLKC (Finger Lakes Kennel club) and The ISCWNY (Irish Setter Club of Western New York). I have been active as Chairman for various committees. I hope to become an AKC judge and I volunteer my time to ISCWNY’s Setter rescue when needed. My involvement in costume design instruction has also led to the creation of The Dancin' Dog clothes line which includes handmade beaded collars, show cover ups with turtle neck, snoods, towel jackets and even homemade Dancin' Setter soaps (for the doggie owner) and bath salts to soak in after a day at the show. Anything can be custom-made for you. If you have an old piece of clothing that you loved on your dog, which you cannot replace, it can be recreated for you on special order. Just contact me. Be sure to check out the online store which is being constructed. I will continue to expand it with new items for your dog…and you!
